RVFirePoker FAQ’s

Q. Is there a barb or hook at the bottom of your campfire poker?

A. No, not on our standard campfire poker, and here’s why.

You don’t need barbs or hooks to snag wood and move it into the flame!

You can lift the end of a piece of wood and move it where you want  it without barbs or hooks. Ever use the barb or hook end on your fireplace at home? Rarely if ever. The end of our campfire poker does just a good a job as a hook or barb.

People outdoors have been using this style of campfire poker for hundreds, maybe thousands of years, and it has worked just fine. They didn’t have hooks or barbs.

The difference between going out into the woods to find a piece of wood to use as a campfire poker and this one, is that ours is made of solid core aircraft aluminum, it’s much lighter, more esthetic and  built to last a lifetime.

Most every Federal, State, Forest Service and County campground  has a grate covering their campfire rings. Our campfire poker fits between almost all of these grates making it a convenient place to keep your fire poker until you need it. If there was a barb on the end, it wouldn’t fit between the grates and you’d have to lay it down on the ground (which is hard to find in the dark, and easy to trip over). This campfire poker also sticks into the ground next to your chair for convenient access.

With respect to storing your campfire poker. If there was a barb or hook at the end, when removing it from your RV storage it would snag all your other camping items stored next to it, leaving a trail of  soot and dirt. A simple wipe with a wet paper towel cleans our campfire poker. Like the basic wooden campfire poker of yesteryear, ours is designed to stir the campfire and move wood which has shifted, back onto the flame.

Lastly, if there was a barb at the end, you would not be able to use the quick attach hot dog fork we offer, thus making our campfire poker single use product.

Q. Using a fire poker for a hotdog fork! Isn’t that unhygienic?

A. When you use a wire or wood hot dog fork, it goes into the same fire ours would. There’s a BIG difference though!

The bad news is that with your old hot dog fork, when you’re done cooking, you usually put the fork back into the fire to “burn off” excessive debris and to “sterilize” it for next use. Then your hot dog stick usually sits all day some place that not protected from dirt or pesky creatures. Chipmunks might eat any meat residue left on your fork! Now that’s unhygienic!

With the stainless steel hot dog fork attachment, just take if off the poker when done, and wash it with the rest of your dinner dishes. Store it in your camping or RV silverware drawer until your next hot dog or marshmallow roast.

Our poker never touches your hot dog. We might recommend that before cooking a hot dog, take a wet napkin and lightly wash off any loose ash which might be on the poker.

Q. Your shipping and handling seems a bit expensive.

A. We agree, it shouldn’t cost that much to ship a product from point A to point B.

The rates we charge are for Priority Mail. We’ve tried to price our products to lessen the pain of postage a little. We could raise the unit price of our products and lower the postage, however we’ve chosen to keep our unit cost as low as possible to reflect what we feel is a fair price.
